Shooting Sports Training

The Seneca Waterways Councils camps feature archery, rifle and BB-Gun / Sling Shot ranges that are available for age appropriate program use with qualified and trained leadership. During the year, opportunities are provided for interested in being certified in range operations.

Archery Instructor Level 1

This course will teach you how to be a safe and effective basic archery instructor.  During this course participants will learn how to safely run a program, how to select, maintain, and repair archery equipment, fit equipment to an archer and how to teach beginning archers the basic safety and shooting skills to begin shooting successfully.

NRA Rifle & Shotgun

This course is being conducted by the Boy Scouts of America in conjunction with their National Camping School division. The primary purpose of this course is to provide individuals who plan on attending the shooting sports director section of National Camping School the opportunity to attain the required NRA rifle and shotgun instructor certification.
Those individuals will have priority in terms of registration. Individuals who are not planning on attending the shooting sports director section of National Camping School may also attend this course if there is room. The maximum number of participant for the course is twenty-five individuals. Those individuals who are not planning on attending the shooting
sports section of National Camping School will be notified two weeks prior to the course to let them know if they will be able to participate.

The course will include topics on rifle/shotgun knowledge and safe handling, ammunition knowledge, firing the first shots, the various positions used in rifle shooting, how to evaluate and improve the performance of beginning shooters and rifle and shotgun sports and activities. In addition, we will review how an instructor fits into the NRA basic firearm
training program, using a training team to deliver the program, training materials and aids and how to use them, and the essentials of organizing a rifle or shotgun course.

(NOTE: Participants MUST attend all days of training, even if they already have an NRA certification.)
