Massawepie Outdoor Challenges
Massawepie Outdoor Challenges are events held by the Massawepie Adirondack Trek Center located at Massawepie Scout Camps near Tupper Lake, NY. Many of the events take Scouts out of the camp into the Adirondack Pack. The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York is within the Adirondack Park which is 6.1 million acres and include more than 10,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, and a wide variety of habitats including wetlands and old-growth forests.
Massawepie Outdoor Challenges
Where: Massawepie Scout Camp - Gannett Lodge
When: January 12 - 15, 2018 (Martin Luther King Weekend)
What: Stay at Massawepie and experience the Adirondacks in the winter. Stay in heated Gannett Lodge or bring your cold weather gear and give the Voyageur lean-to a try. Guided activities will be planned for the entire weekend. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in any and all events that they are interested in.
- Weather dependent activities: down-hill skiing, tubing, ice skating, broom ball
- Tour of the Wild Center, the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks
- Ice Fishing
- Winter outdoor activities
- Winter hiking
Weekend fee is $95.00 per person (Scouts and Adults) which includes: Lodging, Saturday breakfast through Monday lunch, activities, one ticket to the Wilde Center, bandana, and all other activities throughout the weekend. Transportation to events is not provided.
Registration deadline is January 2, 2018
Space is VERY limited due to availability of winter accomodations.Only 48 Scout and 16 Leader spaces are available.
Where: Massawepie Scout Camp- Camp Mountaineer
When: October 6- 9, 2017 (Columbus Day Weekend)
What: Massawepie October Odyssey
Massawepie’s Camp Mountaineer will serve as base camp. Troops will be able to tent camp in Mountaineer or one of the 15 wilderness outposts on the Massawepie property.
There will be a massive list of tasks which if completed by troops will be worth various points depending on their difficulty. Challenges will be located on the entire Massawepie property as well as off property, which will be within driving distance of the camp. We will ask all participating unit to prove their completed tasks through photographs and post on the MOC (Massawepie Outdoor Challenges) Facebook page.
The contest will start on Friday when your unit arrives. The check in person will go over the rules answer any questions. We will have a Saturday cookout for all participants at 6:00 pm. Awards will be presented at 4:30 pm on Sunday for the unit with the most points. Clean up and camp break down will be Monday morning.
Examples of some of the weekend challenges:
- Climb a high peak
- Complete the Tupper Triad
- Visit 5 outposts or ponds
- Catch a fish
