Traditional Camp Programs
Programs offered at C.O.P.E.
COPE stands for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience.
The goal of the COPE course is to stimulate teamwork and reliance on others and is consistent with the goals of the Boy Scouts of America. The COPE area has three distinct levels.
All participants in the COPE area must wear long pants. Jean material is preferred. Sweat pants or nylon pants are NOT acceptable. In addition, it is recommended that participants wear sneakers.
A class 3 medical form must be signed by a physician or physician’s assistant within the past 12 months to be eligible for COPE
Initiative Games
In the afternoon program initiative games are available to Scouts of any age and ability. Scouts can have fun playing COPE games with the guys from their patrol, while working on cooperation, communication and problem solving...the keys to making a patrol run well.
Low COPE
In the afternoon program the Low COPE course is available to Scouts of any age. This program can be physically demanding. Low COPE is at the heart of fulfilling the Project COPE goals. By allowing Scouts to work through the event as a team, these courses promote leadership abilities and teamwork. The COPE staff provides entertaining scenarios and assures Scouts safety through all activities. After each event Scouts are asked to reflect on their performance and their approach so they might improve as a team.
High COPE
In the afternoon program the High COPE course is available Scouts who are thirteen (13) years old by January 1 of this year or have completed the 7th grade. The COPE High course focuses on personal achievement and confidence building. Challenges, Scouts may face include walking on wires, climbing and rappelling from a tower, and taking a ride on a zip line. On Monday and Tuesday evening the High COPE course is also available to individuals who sign up at Penn Yan Lodge.
